The Vlog is coming!

Thanks to everyone who commented and replied to my post on Friday about whether this blog should remain in this format or move to video. The answer was a resounding vote to keep the status quo. It’s great to know that I have breakfast with many of you, so I will endeavour to keep writing and providing something for you to read with your cornflakes.

As some of you know, I was pretty active on YouTube for the first half of 2016, however I got bored of doing ‘talking head’ videos, so took an indefinite break. I’ve always loved doing video, and it’s a great platform, I’ve just needed to get my mojo back.

Last Wednesday Chris Marr ran a webinar with the amazing Marcus Sheridan, and Marcus spoke about the importance of video. I’d already been thinking about making a comeback, and Marcus inspired me to get back to it. And so I found myself ordering a new camera – the Canon Powershot G7x. The camera of choice for vloggers the world over.

I’m still in the planning stages, and one of the things I’d like to do is a weekly show, with interviews, a little bit of news & maybe a vlog section. But what I want isn’t important – it’s about what you want. So what I’m asking today is what you’d like to see? Would you be interested in interviews? If so, who should I be interviewing? What topics would you like to see me cover?

I’m thinking the show could be 20-30 minutes long, or is that too long in our time-starved world? What do you think?

Should I do a separate weekly vlog, like my friend Gavin Bell?

Over to you – let me know your thoughts!

  1. Hey Ali,

Enjoying my porridge as I write!

I watch quite a few vloggers and personally find it off-putting if the video is longer than 15mins. Under 10 is ideal. At this length, it’s a no-brainier, but if it’s 20 or 30 then it has to be really strong content to get me to dedicate the time.

If you’re thinking about a show with multiple segments, I’d produce them all as individual videos.

Having said that, I’ll happily listen to a podcast of 30-45mins length. So maybe your interview show would be better marketed as a podcast, but which you record and can be watched on YT as an alternative? Just an idea!
